Meet Makita! Our Resident Parrot at Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya!

No trip to Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya is complete without meeting our long-time resident parrot, Makita! Everyone’s favorite feathered friend, Makita the parrot has a big personality and an even bigger heart. She’s extremely friendly and absolutely loves to be petted!

Makita is a bit of a ladies’ man, so don’t be alarmed if she climbs onto your shoulder and perches there for a bit. She loves to eat bright colored fruits and enjoys preening for her admirers. Her luxurious lifestyle is the envy of all!

Makita Celebrates Her 9th Birthday at Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya

We are celebrating a very special guest at Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya! For those of you that haven’t met Makita, she is our friendly resident Military Macaw parrot here at Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita.  After Hurricane Wilma blew through the Yucatan Peninsula in November 2005, we found Makita here, making Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita her home. We’re not sure where she came from or her true age, but she has quickly become a beloved part of our family and seems to enjoy her new life of luxury! Every year we celebrate Makita’s “birthday,” or the time she’s spent with us—so far, 9 years! Happy 9th birthday Makita! Below we’ve posted some photos in her honor.
