Immerse Yourself in Thalassotherapy at Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita

Revitalize and restore your spirit in the extraordinary and award-winning Thalasso Center & Spa at Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya, the first of its kind in North America. If you have never heard of Thalassotherapy, which comes from the Greek word for “sea,” the treatments are based on the use of various aspects of the ocean, including freshly heated seawater, seaweed and marine mud. These substances infuse the skin with minerals and nutrients to eliminate toxins and promote well-being.

The therapeutic benefits of Thalassotherapy have been recognized for thousands of years, being widely used by many ancient Mediterranean civilizations including the Egyptians, Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans. British and French physicians started to recognize the therapeutic benefits of seawater as early as the XVIII century, eventually leading to modern scientific studies and the official recognition of the curative properties of Thalassotherapy by the French Ministry of Health in 1997.

Featured Blogger: Michele Peterson Shares 8 Detox Secrets from Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya

At Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts, we don’t think feeling healthy should be about sacrifice. It’s our philosophy that wellness extends beyond traditional health, fitness, nutrition and spa approaches, as Toronto-based travel writer Michele Peterson discovered on her trip to Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya. On her blog, Michele shared her 8 Detox Secrets from Zoëtry Paraiso. After enjoying all that the Cancun Riviera-Maya Wine & Food Festival had to offer, Michele was ready to kick start her own holistic wellness regimen at Zoëtry.

Instead of indulging in frequent cocktails, for example, Michele sipped iced herbal tea. “Chugging three or four glasses of organic tea a day didn’t leave much room for boozy drinks although I did sample a few for research purposes,” she says.

Another tip included eating outdoors to keep portions under control: “Dining on my terrace helped avoid mindless eating while browsing  my iPhone. Executive Chef Antonio Torres’s “green cuisine” philosophy meant plenty of fresh herbs from the resort’s organic garden, big flavors and unprocessed local ingredients. As part of Zoetry’s commitment to Healthy Eating Choices, the menu displayed the calorie, carb and fat content of each dish. Delicious grilled fish vs. pasta most days for me.”

Michele also took advantage of Zoëtry Paraiso’s fitness center and spa during her trip: “After working out in the gym (running on a treadmill while watching the waves break made the time speed by) I headed for a Swedish massage and the Thalasso spa to soak up the beneficial powers of seawater. The water, a warm 27-31C, was so  effervescent it felts like floating in a  glass of bubbly champagne.”

Thalassotherapy at Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita

By Guest Blogger Zuko Garcia

Thalassotherapy has been used to promote health and wellness since ancient times in Mediterranean civilizations. It is currently a new trend among spa enthusiasts and can be found in high end spas around the world, especially in Europe. This kind of therapy uses therapeutic qualities found in seawater, marine algae, marine mud and salts to prevent and treat a variety of different conditions.

Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya has the first certified Thalasso Center in North America. Our beautiful 22,000 square foot oceanfront Mexican style Thalasso Center and Spa boasts 16 wet and dry treatment rooms, separate male and female saunas and steam rooms, a fitness center, a mystical Temazcal and a large outdoor therapeutic saltwater pool.

Interesting facts…

Sea water contains more than 75 elements identified as necessary for the human body to function well. Sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iodine, sulfur, phytoplankton are the most important elements that make salt water so special. These elements help transmit impulses from our nervous system to the body, regulate blood pressure, build resistance to fatigue, strengthen muscle, promote weight loss and more! The right temperature for the elements to be absorbed by the human body is between 34˚C and 37˚C (93 to 98˚F), which is exactly the temperature our thalasso pool is heated to for our guests.

  • Jet-lag
  • Detoxification
