At Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts, we don’t think feeling healthy should be about sacrifice. It’s our philosophy that wellness extends beyond traditional health, fitness, nutrition and spa approaches, as Toronto-based travel writer Michele Peterson discovered on her trip to Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya. On her blog, Michele shared her 8 Detox Secrets from Zoëtry Paraiso. After enjoying all that the Cancun Riviera-Maya Wine & Food Festival had to offer, Michele was ready to kick start her own holistic wellness regimen at Zoëtry.

Instead of indulging in frequent cocktails, for example, Michele sipped iced herbal tea. “Chugging three or four glasses of organic tea a day didn’t leave much room for boozy drinks although I did sample a few for research purposes,” she says.
Another tip included eating outdoors to keep portions under control: “Dining on my terrace helped avoid mindless eating while browsing my iPhone. Executive Chef Antonio Torres’s “green cuisine” philosophy meant plenty of fresh herbs from the resort’s organic garden, big flavors and unprocessed local ingredients. As part of Zoetry’s commitment to Healthy Eating Choices, the menu displayed the calorie, carb and fat content of each dish. Delicious grilled fish vs. pasta most days for me.”

Michele also took advantage of Zoëtry Paraiso’s fitness center and spa during her trip: “After working out in the gym (running on a treadmill while watching the waves break made the time speed by) I headed for a Swedish massage and the Thalasso spa to soak up the beneficial powers of seawater. The water, a warm 27-31C, was so effervescent it felts like floating in a glass of bubbly champagne.”

Running on the beach is a great way to get fit while protecting joints from high-impact surfaces. There’s also volleyball and tennis courts, an aqua gym, golf course and yoga and dance classes. At Zoëtry Resorts & Spas, we’re all about stress-relief, health and wellness. An integral part to a healthy mind is a healthy body, and a healthy body is achieved through good dietary practices. This doesn’t only include what you eat, but what you drink as well. Herbal teas are the perfect place to start! Frequently served at Zoëtry Resorts & Spas, herbal teas boast an impressive number of health benefits. Below, we’ve highlighted five reasons why you should make an effort to drink more tea.
- Tea is full of antioxidants! Antioxidants help your body to combat aging and the wear-and-tear of everyday life.
- It won’t make you jittery. Tea contains less than half the amount of caffeine found in coffee. Fed up with feeling wired after every cup of coffee? Try tea!
- Studies show that tea can reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. Tea helps to keep your arteries clean—just ask habitual tea drinkers in the Netherlands who have a 70 percent less chance of suffering a heart attack than their peers.
- It promotes bone health. One study found that tea drinkers had stronger bones after 10 years than their non tea-drinker counterparts.
- Tea strengthens your immune system. No one likes being sick all the time! Combat the common cold and other illnesses by drinking tea every day.

Fall is right around the corner and even though it’s summer all year round at Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts, we still love fall foods and flavors. In fact, we try to incorporate many of them into the dishes at our resorts.
Here are just a few of our favorites:
Apples: Apples are the perfect food for fall. Whether sweet or tart, apples are delicious raw or cooked and can be used in anything from salads to desserts. And as a plus, apples are full of antioxidants and contain 4 grams of dietary fiber per serving.
Pumpkin: It’s not fall without pumpkin. Pumpkin can be used to make ravolis as a main course, pie as a dessert or even bread as an appetizer. Whatever you choose, this ingredient is one that will leave you wanting more!
Squash: In the cooler months, squash has a fine texture and slightly sweet flavor and is a favorite of many. It tastes delicious with other fall flavors such as cinnamon and ginger. Also, this veggie contains omega-3 fatty acids and is an excellent source of Vitamin A!
Sweet Potatoes: Let’s face it. A dinner table during the fall months likely contains sweet potatoes! This vegetable is yummy fried, baked or roasted. It’s also a good source of iron and has anti-inflammatory benefits.
