11/11/11 turned out to be quite a special day at Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya! Not only was it the rare calendar date that only comes around once every hundred years, it was also Makita’s 7th Birthday, Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita’s resident parrot! After Hurricane Wilma blew through the Yucatan Peninsula in November 2005, Makita made Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita her home. No one is quite sure where she flew in from or her exact age but since her arrival, she has been a hit with both guests and staff.
Her birthday celebration included colorful balloons, a beautifully decorated Tres Leches cake (an authentic Mexican dessert), her very own peanut bag (her favorite!) and the resort’s harpist who serenaded her with a collection of birthday songs. To add to this special occasion, Makita received a brand-new bird cage as a birthday present! Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita’s owner, Mr. Carlos Gosselin, General Manager, Valter Espinoza and resort guests all joined in to help celebrate Makita’s 7th Birthday! Everyone had a fantastic time and Makita loved being the center of attention for her special day!
Below are some pictures and a video of the celebration!

I walked by Maktita on her perch and she said “agua”, climbed on my shoulder and we walked to a flower vase that she drank out of then said “thank you”. When we left, she turned our way and spoke, “good bye”. On another occasion, she left her “droppings” on my shirt before lunch but thats a different story. Happy Birthday!
