Pinterest is a virtual pinboard that allows you to organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web, and we’re using this emerging social network to showcase our beautiful resorts. We’re excited to be a part of a growing travel community in this visually-stimulating social space. If you’re not familiar with the site, take a look at this glimpse of our profile below to give you an idea of its’ layout:

As you can see above, we have a pinboard for each of our resorts as well as boards that represent the locations and cultures our guests experience while staying with us. Pinterest works by aggregating photos that have been pinned by users into several categories like ‘beauty & health’, ‘weddings & events’, ‘travel & places’, etc. You can use Pinterest to follow users who pin content that inspires you, and also use your own pinboards to save great photos, articles and ideas you find while surfing the web. The New Year is right around the corner and that means people will be making New Year’s Resolutions to better themselves. For many, these resolutions include eating healthier. Here at Zoetry Wellness & Spa Resorts, we always strive to provide the best and freshest ingredients in our dishes so that our guests enjoy healthy, but delicious meals.

If you’re not visiting Zoetry Paraiso de La Bonita or Zoetry Casa del Mar this year, but are interested in learning how to make some of our favorite Mexican dishes a little healthier at home, we have some great tips for you!

Below are a few ways that you can still enjoy your favorite meals, but feel a little less guilty about it.

Add Spice, Do Away with Salt: Mexican food can often be high in sodium, but can easily be made healthier by using spices in your kitchen rather than prepacked seasoning. Popular Mexican seasonings include cumin, cayenne pepper, chili powder, oregano, pepper, cilantro and lime juice. Need an extra kick? Add hot green peppers to your dishes, they’re a great metabolism booster and add amazing flavor.

Opt for a Fish Taco: Fish tacos can be much healthier than beef tacos and fish is a terrific source of healthy omega 3 acids. You can use almost any fish in this dish, just be sure to boil or poach it to avoid unneeded calories. If you can’t stomach fish, try a lean chicken or ground turkey.

Add Veggies and Lots of Them: Believe it or not, vegetarian dishes are actually very authentic in the Mexican culture. By piling on veggies, you won’t even realize you’re missing the meat! Start with corn, shredded lettuce and chopped onions then add some yellow squash or zucchini and sweet red or green peppers. Finish with fresh tomatoes for extra taste and color, and you’ll have quite the delicious meal.

Use Whole Wheat Tortillas: A staple of Mexican food is the tortilla. However, these can often add calories to many dishes. As an alternative, use a whole wheat tortilla for your burritos, quesadillas or enchiladas.

Go Easy on the Toppings: It’s natural to want to add guacamole and sour cream to your dishes. And if you do, be frugal with it. Use just a tiny bit of guacamole and opt for low fat sour cream. Also, choose low fat white cheeses as opposed to yellow cheeses.

We are all about wellness and relaxation at Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts. Aside from gorgeous beaches, beautiful pools and delicious restaurants, we also offer a number of spa treatments including massages, facials, manicures and pedicures.

Our 22,000 sq. ft. spa at Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya is a tranquil oasis that transcends all others by offering the first certified Thalassotherapy Spa in North America. The Thalasso Center & Spa offers guests a wide range of treatments combining ancient traditions and modern health science for an utterly relaxing and tranquil spa experience.

One very popular treatment is the hydromassage, a state of the art hydrotherapy treatment in a warm seawater tub applied using a choice of six computerized treatment protocols to control 72 water, air and ozone jets strategically positioned along acupressure meridians. It has numerous benefits including relaxation and stress reduction, increased circulation, elimination of toxins, relieved fluid retention and remineralization.

Recently, Jeannine Morris of Beauty Sweet Spot visited Zoëtry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya and tried the hydromassage for herself. Here’s what she had to say about it:

Last week I took a time out from the 50 degree temperatures in NYC and went on a press trip with Schick to the Riviera Maya, Mexico and had the honor of staying at the Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita Riviera Maya.  While I was there I experienced my first Hydromassage.  It’s not a treatment I would normally choose off of a spa menu, but now that I’ve gotten it, I highly recommend it (and yes they’re available in spas across the US too).

Picture getting into a tiny jacuzzi set at 72 degrees made just for you.  It contours with the curves of you body and has about 40 jets all along the sides with a bar at the bottom that you can rest your feet on so you don’t float from left to right as the jets push you.  That’s what I stepped into.  Filled with salt water and micronized algae (to help reduce cellulite), I soaked in the mini tub for about 30 minutes as the strategically placed jets were programed to pump out at different speeds massaging my body from my shoulders down to my feet.

With the holidays right around the corner, there’s no doubt that thousands of people will be spending countless hours searching for the perfect gifts for their loved ones. And as a result of running from store to store, feet can take a beating.

Here at Zoëtry Wellness & Spa Resorts, we value relaxation and taking care of our bodies. This holiday season, take a break from your busy schedule and give your feet some TLC with this rosemary peppermint foot scrub. Trust us, they will feel rejuvenated and you’ll be hitting the malls again in no time!

Rosemary Peppermint Foot Scrub

Ingredients

1 cup coarse sea salt

1/8 cup olive oil or sweet almond oil

2 to 3 drops peppermint essential oil

1 to 2 drops rosemary essential oil

2 sprigs fresh crushed rosemary or ½ teaspoon dried rosemary

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Massage into feet and ankles. Rinse with warm water and follow with a moisturizer. Store excess scrub in a glass jar.

If you’re visiting Zoëtry Casa del Mar in the near future, be sure to stop by the excursions desk to set-up a tour of El Arco during your stay! El Arco is one of most famous natural wonders in all of Mexico.

This 200-foot granite rock is uniquely shaped in an arch and situated next to Playa del Amor or Lover’s Beach. Each year, El Arco attracts thousands and thousands of tourists who are in awe of its natural shape, which was carved by the strong ocean currents.

Centuries ago, El Arco was used as a hiding place by pirates, who would ambush and plunder merchant ships heading toward the west coast. Today, this unique and eye-catching landmark attracts cruise ships and mini boats filled with tourists looking to snap some photos. It’s a true beauty for anyone who comes to see it and is often pictured on postcards and souvenirs that depict the many natural marvels of the Baja Peninsula.
